Hello Lee, I love reading about Pete and Weasel over at the Begonia House. I’m not sure how Pete deals with the skeletons, but he is dressed as a King so maybe he commands them to leave or fights them with his sword! Or the story might end with them plunging into yet another disaster?
My cousin told me a tale the other day about a walk he took with his dog. He was in an area of the New Forest (UK) where there were no street lights and little traffic noise. This is what he wrote;
twas quite eerie last night taking the dog out as there were no street lights so very dark and quiet. Halloween is approaching, as you know, so ghost stories are sort of hovering in one’s mind. We are walking up this dark lane and there is some strange green florescence ahead….spooky….which turned out to be someone's outside light illuminating the trees opposite…Whew! I had a good torch with me, but I tend not to use a torch as I feel it gives my position away to anyone lurking with ill intent, so a little further on, suddenly I see a ghostly grey shape ahead… Now what's that I think, keep in mind I have not walked this road previously, but I carry on. My dog crosses over to the other verge, and I follow her, the ‘ghost’ counters by nipping to the side we just left….Aaaah! My dog was quite happy and nipped back across the lane with me close behind….The ’ghost’ countered by doing likewise. What is going on? This went on for several moves until I lost my nerve and shone the torch ahead…………….one each side of the road………triangular, silver fluorescent backed speed signs. The house light I had passed was enough to illuminate the signs faintly, and my shadow was creating the illusion of movement between them. Not really sure I like Halloween so much now.
It made me laugh but I also thought a clever writer (such as you) could probably use some of that for a story.
What a delight to find this, Barbara! I enjoyed your cousin's story immensely. Of course, I'm filing this away for one of those times I'm in need of a ghostly explanation. Thank you so much.

Ah, a good cliffhanger…
. . . and now the ending.
Maybe its trick or treaters who think it'd be fun calling out the spirits by making clacking rattling noises, which is common thing shamans use. Maybe they really did awake the witches or just gave the boys one big scare and Pete has think on his feet not to sap real people. Anyway, this not entry. I already book but great story.

Looks like it's time for Pete to bring out the magic and hope it works. He might create invisible capes where the boys disappear and can escape the witches. Seeing the picture of one, they sure don't want to tangle with the witches.
It's the warts, Beverly. Those are the worst, but I love the idea of the capes.

Is it wrong of me to be torn? I don't want anything to happen to Pete and Weasel, but those witchy skeletons have gone a long time between drinks. Some where in some time they have to win again…
