Today on the A-Z Blog Challenge, J is for Joseph Epstein, the author of Gossip (2012), Envy (2006), and Snobbery.(2003) Here is a writer who chronicles our weakness. How tantalizing!
Loved his interview where he said that the internet has “democratized gossip.” It’s rougher and “dishier” than it used to be in plain old print.
Do you take part in gossip? Have you been the target of some? Anyone read Mr. Epstein’s books?
Don’t forget to visit the other A-Zers! They’re an amazing bunch.
J.E. is new to me. Gossip is scary stuff since it can turn malicious so quickly. I am guilty of it, but I try to clamp my jaw shut when I feel it coming out.
Considering Gossip, Envy and Snobbery I must confess that I detest snobbery, and am envious of those who do not gossip. Julie
I haven't read his books, but I like the titles so I'll have to go get them 😀
I haven't read his books but watched a few eps here and there of Gossip Girls and it is hilarious!
My name is one of those Teresa's not Teresa Teresa. However, that might be novel.

I'm not sure what fantasy world I live in, but I just found out recently there are blogs out there that purposely say mean things about other blogs. I mean that's their goal to make fun of and be mean about other bloggers. Is this true. I mean gossip is one thing (mean as it is) but slamming others just to slam?
Well if it's true, bring it on. 🙂

I can honestly say that I don't gossip at all. I've washed my hands of it.
I have not read Joseph Epstein.
Gossip is pretty irresistible, but I try not to fall too deeply into it. I prefer to call it news! Otherose, it sounds negative, and I don't like to share any news that would ever hurt someone or their reputation. I'm doing the A to Z so pop on by if you like!
I haven't read Joe Epstein, but he sounds fascinating. In a recent NYTimes interview, he scribbled this on a blackboard: "Plus un homme cultive les arts, moins il bande," (Roughly translated, "The more a man immerses himself in the arts, the poorer his sex life.") I'm not sure I agree, but this guy is really prolific and a voice for the 'literary essay'. Well worth looking up. Thanks!
No, I'm afraid I've never heard of him!
I've never read his books. I'm not big on gossip though. I try to avoid it.
wish i didn't like to hear gossip, but sometimes i do enjoy hearing it, i usually don't spread it—one of my vices, i should pray about more—-
My elderly neighbor fills her day with going door to door talking about people. I don't even answer my door to her anymore.
I've never heard of him, but the topics of his books sound fascinating!
Take part in it? No. Been the target of it? No more so than anyone else I think.
I am trying to read all the A to Z blogs, but coming back to the ones I really like.
Looking forward to seeing what you do all month!
