Anthologies are hot!
And I think we’re going to see a lot more of them, especially in eBook format. What do you think about them? I mean does a collection of short stories, perhaps thematically linked, appeal to you? Would you be likely to plunk out a few dollars ($1.99-$2.99) to download one of these eBooks? Is it more to your liking to have a paperback than an eBook? I’d love to hear your ideas.
I did a bit of hunting for some and here are a couple I found. The retold fairy tales looked good. . . and SPOOKY!

So did the more global one with international stories. It really fascinated me.

I guess I’m interested in this because I’ve signed on to do some short stories for anthologies. My first one is out now and it’s called The First Time. I’m really in good company with Jenny Moss, Stacey Jay, Carrie Ryan, Sydney Salter, Kurtis Scaletta, Jon Skovron, Janet Gurtler, Leigh Brescia, Rhonda Stapleton (Ed.), Jessica Verday (Ed.) and many more. Stay tuned because there’s more coming.

I'm still an old-school hard copy book guy. I don't have an e-reader yet, but from an author's standpoint the profit margin sounds better with digital copy.

Congrats! I'm glad to see an outlet for YA short fiction because the magazine markets for it are all but gone. Still, have to say I'm not a huge anthology fan. Read one years ago by Budge Wilson that I LOVED, but others, even highly touted ones, just weren't my thing.

Congrats and good luck with your short stories!

Catherine, here's a hug for selecting The First Time.
I hadn't heard of End, Ciara. Thanks. I'd like to see what they have in that collection.
Waving at all of you and thanking you for the visit!

Yay! Congrats. I love the cover!

I think you're right, anthologies are hot. There is one coming out with a a post apocalyptic cover and all proceeds go to charity. I can't wait to read it. I think it's called End.

Okay, I just bought it on kindle!!!

Hi Lee,
The First Time anthology looks great. Going to have to but it and read! I like both novels and short stories. Anthologies are a good way to get a flavor of a group of writers.

I enjoy reading and writing short stories and essays, so I have several anthologies. I still haven't made the switch to ebooks yet, though. All of my anthologies are in print format.
Love the cover for The First Time!

Yay!! Awesome. Congrats! My only publications are short stories in anthologies and other things for now. I've found it to be a great experience. Not such esteemed company though. ;D

For years, I ignored anthologies–not that I had anything against them. It wasn't until Gena Showalter did a few, that I really took notice. I guess I'm with everyone else. I'm interested when they involve an author I already like.
Speaking of authors I like…
The First Time sounds like it'll be good! I can't wait. 🙂

I've mostly read anthologies by scifi authors. And a couple by writers on writing. I like a good short story so…I think yes, I'd be willing to shell out a few bucks for an ebook. I'm still waiting on my Kindle!
Congratulations on having a story in The First Time. Sounds wonderful.

I think the ebook version for a cheaper price would sell better. That's just my opinion though.

I bought an anthology once because it had several authors I was interested in reading more from. I read a few of the shorts, but didn't ever finish. I did get exposure to some authors though I wouldn't have otherwise bought books from but ended up being impressed with their work. That's a good thing, right?
I'm not sure about price point or format… I tend to like short stories as filler between longer novels when I'm just not quite ready to commit to a full novel (which is rare). Not sure I'd keep going back if in ebook format.

I'll definitely let you know what I think if I get a chance to read it :). I'm hoping to get some free time to read for fun, soon, so I'll put this on my list. 😀

That's really interesting, and I can see your point. If you like, say, Stephen King, then you could read one of his short story collections and relish each one. On the other hand, you may only like a few in a collection by several authors.
Thanks for weighing in on this. I'm interested in hearing what readers think.

I've never quite understood anthologies unless they were a collection of short stories by a single author. I don't really have anything against them, but I don't personally got out to buy short story collections unless they contain a story by a specific author I'm interested in.
I'll have to check out THE FIRST TIME, though, and soon 🙂
