Co-hosts today: Murees Dupe, Alexia Chamberlynn, Chemist Ken, and Heather Gardner!
I didn’t forget today was the first Wednesday of the month. I took some time to think about things like life and death and the insecurity we are all caught up in while we mosey through these lives of ours.
I lost one very long-time friend earlier this month, and just yesterday I lost another. One died in an accident. The other of chronic heart disease, so one was a shock, the other something I’d known would happen–just not when.
But there’s no difference between the two deaths when it comes to the loss I feel or how insecure I am now that those two people are no longer here and a part of days.
I suppose this is another of life’s lessons that I should be attending to. The lesson that says all has a beginning and all has an end–learn to accept and appreciate that. The lesson that says, some things aren’t worth being insecure about. Save that insecurity up for what’s really important.
So that’s what I’ve been mulling over.

Arlee Bird says
We can waste our lives on worrying about our own deaths or we can just live and enjoy the ride. I'll bet we who lead cushy well-provided lives think about our own woes than people who really truly are suffering and in need.
My world is an insignificant speck in a much larger world that is a mere meaningless dot in a vast uncaring universe.

I'm very sorry for your loss.
While I was in Italy, a good friend of mine died of cancer. She hadn't let anyone beyond her most inner circle of family know she was sick, so that added to the pain.
It was yet another reminder that life is short. As much as becoming a full-time fiction author means the world to me, I'm going to try my best not to work 14-hour days any longer.
Hugs to you.

So sorry for your losses, Lee. Friends–certain friends–are as keenly missed as family. And some friends do become part of your security. I have and have had friends like that, and they have been going, one by one. But all their wisdom and impact on your life is never gone.
C. Lee McKenzie says
Beautifully said. What they left for me and others is priceless, and I hope some of that will pass on to those I love.
Chemist Ken says
That kind of thing really puts things in perspective. It makes me appreciate each day I have. I'm sorry for your loss.
C. Lee McKenzie says
I think that's why I had to wait to post on Wed until later. The perspective was so different for me.

I'm so sorry for your losses, Lee. Death of loved ones is always a shock, even if you know it's coming. I found that out when my husband passed away, nearly ten years ago. Every day we're on this Earth is precious. The older I get, the more I think about the fewer days I have left. But I have no control over that, so I do my best to live every day to its fullest and appreciate all that I have. Sending warm thoughts and prayers your way.
C. Lee McKenzie says
Your very kind, Lori. And you obviously know what loss is all about.
Pat Hatt says

Oh Lee, so sorry. Death makes us aware of our mortality, which each of us must face, which should make us appreciate life all the more. May you find peace and solace in remembering your friends and the joy they brought to your life. Think of how different things would have been had you never known them. Hugs.
C. Lee McKenzie says
Oh yes. You're so right. If I'd never known them I wouldn't be grieving, but think of all the wonderful things I would have missed. Thanks so much, Bish.

I just lost a good friend last weekend who went out of her way to draw me into her family, especially on the holidays so that I would not feel so alone. Death waits for us all, but the survivors hurt the worst. May comfort come to you from surprising sources.
