One thing we know as writers is that after we write, then publish, our work has just begun. We want visibility, and one way to get that is through REVIEWS. Since reviewers don’t usually knock at our door asking if they can read our book, we’re the ones who have the “leg work” to do. Today it’s not so much the legs that we exercise, but our eyes and our nimble fingers get quite a work out.
If we’re going to put in all that time and energy finding reviewers and contacting them, we best do it right. I found this great article that gives writers 5 REVIEW REQUEST MISTAKES. They are right on. Find the link below.
Do you have any mistakes or any positive suggestions for how to approach reviewers? Add them, please.

I just read the article. I'd love to say it's common sense but I've been on the other end of the slushpile and I know how many writers lack common sense.

I can't wait to show the trailer to my class. I'm starting the read aloud on day 1 – this Thursday. Gave "Alligators Overhead" some love in my post this week.

Heading over to Stephen's right now. 🙂
Those are great tips, although they're so obvious that it's a pity that some people need to read them.

Great link. It is difficult to get visibility, and there are right and wrong ways to do it.
Have a great weekend.

Great post Lee. As a reviewer when the author sends me the book, if I have a negative review I might actually ask them if they prefer a publish it or not. (Like is bad press better than no press, and is it possible from my neg review someone else might decide they would like it)? As for the free copy, I once was asked to do a review for someone and thought that meant they'd send the book. When they didn't, I backed out of the review as it was something I probably wouldn't have read.

Getting the feeling Alex has it in for cats … Also, the tips for seeking reviews was most timely and helpful. 🙂

Be terrible if something happened to all of those cats while gathered at the conference, now wouldn't it?
Already visited Stephen this morning.
And my publisher sends out reviews, but I have suggested reviewers to them.
