As some of you know I’ve not had the best year. It has to do with the fact that I’m a Tiger and this is the year of the Black Water Snake. Very bad for Tigers. Of course, I don’t believe in such superstitious clap-trap, but here’s a short list of my 2013.
January
Mom’s caretaker has heart attack at age 40.
I move Mom to assisted living facility until I can find replacement caretaker.
February
Mom falls, fractures her neck.
Mom needs more care. Cost astronomical–much more in home than in assisted living facility.
Mom stays in assisted living, but not happily. (Read between the comma.)
March
Must sell house.
Can’t sell house until renter leaves.
April
Renter makes all kinds of excuses about why he can’t leave.
Me in April |
May
Start eviction proceedings.
Me in May |
June
Renter promises to leave.
Me in June |
July
Renter promises to leave.
Me in July |
August.
Renter leaves. (Here’s where the celebrating begins.)
September
Taking a break while I get the house on the market. I’ve scheduled my INSECURE WRITER POST, so that will be the only post I’ll make in September. I’ll be back in October, but will try to pop into your blogs to say hi and keep up with what you’re doing. I’m addicted to all of you, you see.
BUDDY says
Woof! If I could reach through this computer, I'd give you a big wet dog smooch right upside the face!
Beverly Stowe McClure says
It has been quite a year, but just think. It has to get better. Sending hugs and prayers for you and your mom. May the rest of the year be a blessing to you.
C. Lee McKenzie says
THanks so much, Beverly. I'm hoping your hugs and prayers work. 🙂
Southpaw says
I pray your mom is doing better. And I hope the renter didn't do any damage on his way out. I also hope things go smoothly from here on out.
C. Lee McKenzie says
So far the house seems okay. That's the best news. Thanks, Southpaw!
Nick Wilford says
Well, at least you are ending on a positive note and we still have four months of the year left. 🙂 See you in October with hopefully good news about the house!
C. Lee McKenzie says
Hey, Nick. Great to hear from you. Here's to October.
Hilary Melton-Butcher says
Hi Lee .. I'm so pleased the renter left – he could so easily be there. Good luck with the organisation of your Mom's house and then let's hope you have a quick sale …
Thinking of you – it's not been an easy year … cheers Hilary
Crystal Collier says
Whew! That's a year! Here's hoping it goes more smoothly here on out, and that you can sell your house right away. Hey, at least the market has been slowly recovering in that time. It may turn out to be a blessing.
P.S. I want to take a ride on a bunch of balloons.
Ruth Schiffmann says
Wow, Lee, that is a rough year. So sorry. I know how overwhelming caring for a parent can be. I'm glad things are finally looking up with the house. Wishing you all the best with it. May it sell quickly!
Nas says
Hugs on all the trials and tribulations all through the year. Getting renter's out of properties is one of the most awful job ever. The excuses they make…
DMS says
Oh my goodness- you have had quite the year. And through it all you are always pointing out the positives in life. That says a lot about who you are! I am glad the renter is out and the house is on the market. Hope you have a wonderful September and enjoy some time away from your blog. *hugs*
~Jess
C. Lee McKenzie says
Thanks, Jess. Appreciate those hugs. Really.
Old Kitty says
Gosh what a year so far! 🙁 I do home mum is ok!
All the best with your house-selling!! Wishing you a peaceful and productive break! Take care
x
C. Lee McKenzie says
Here's to that peaceful, productive break. I appreciate your thoughts. See you in Sept, but I'll try to get around to your blog and say hi to Charlie and Gumdrop even if I"m not posting here.
M.L. Swift says
Try FOUR years with a "renter" (pays no rent) and two years with her son (also pays no rent).
Good luck on the sale of the house, and we'll see you whenever.
M.L. Swift, Writer
C. Lee McKenzie says
So you knows the pain and the sleepless nights! We could form a support group, I'm sure.
Julie Flanders says
I'm sorry it's been such a rough year so far for you and your mom. But so glad the renter finally got his butt out! I loved your last pic.
Take care and I hope the last four months of 2013 will be much better for you.
C. Lee McKenzie says
My fingers are crossed, Julie. Thanks for the wishes.
Elizabeth Varadan, Author says
You deserve a break! Best wishes for your mom. That must be such a worry!
C. Lee McKenzie says
It's 24/7 these days. I wasn't ready, but here it is. Thanks for stopping in.
VikLit says
Goodness me, I hope it works out with the house in the market, you have had to wait a while to celebrate that. Good luck with it all and we'll see you on your return.
C. Lee McKenzie says
Thanks, Vik! I'll love celebrating with all of you.
DEZMOND says
ah, your year has been almost as horrible as mine 🙂
C. Lee McKenzie says
There. There. Let's commiserate, DEZ!
Gary Philip Pennick says
Hi Lee,
You've had somewhat of a crap year. Folks in your personal life have had somewhat of a crap year. The good bit out of the crap year so far is that you maintain a sense of ironic humour (humor). I just love seeing a red line under a word when it's spelt incorectly, um incorrectly.
Hope all works out in September with the house on the market and a more settled situation for your mother. I will do my best to take care of blogsville during your absence. Of course, I do note you have still contributed to the "I Was Seeking Gary." Completely understandable!
As ever, your starstruckest fan,
Penny's alleged human,
Gary
C. Lee McKenzie says
I'll try to make a contribution to IWSG. Just late. But I'm alleged to be perpetually late just as you're alleged to be Penny's human. 🙂
Lexa Cain says
I know just what you mean. My friends and I were comparing horror stories about renters recently. One guy took a sledge hammer to the bathroom and stole the sink and toilet. Another tried to widen a window (without permission) and broke half the brick wall.
I'll miss you so much in Sept. I always look forward to your posts and your humor. You're the funniest tiger I know! I'm looking forward to October…
C. Lee McKenzie says
Chuckling, Lexa! Glad you think I'm funny. I guess we "get" each other because I always get a great laugh reading your posts.
S.K. Anthony says
Big hugs! Here is hoping it all goes smoothly from here on out. See you in October 😉
C. Lee McKenzie says
October is my favorite month of the year! See you then.
Mere Joyce says
Not a great start to the year, but hopefully the Fall will bring better news (like maybe a good offer on the house?) Enjoy your September!
C. Lee McKenzie says
Thanks, Mere. I'm looking forward to that. Hope your Sept is great.
Cathrina Constantine says
Whoa, sounds like a nightmarish year so far. (I somewhat feel a tad of your frustration,my mom-in-law broke her hip in February) Let's pray the rest of 2013 is loaded with delightful surprises!
C. Lee McKenzie says
Here's to delightful surprises! I'm all in for those. Thanks, Cathrina.
Beth says
Lee, I hope things get better. There really should be more help available for people who can no longer/cannot care for themselves. And it's upsetting your mom broke a bone in an assisted living facility, not at home. (They have staff for a reason).
C. Lee McKenzie says
You're right, Beth. The sidewalk was slippery and someone should have noticed that where "walkers" are the norm and not the exception.
Natalie Aguirre says
Sounds like you've had a really hard year. And yet you've been your cheerful self here. What an inspiration! Take your time off to handle what you need to do. I'm not looking forward to my mom needing that kind of help.
I'm looking forward to a weekend off. My first since late June!
C. Lee McKenzie says
Enjoy that break, too, Natalie! I'm looking forward to working with you in October. It's on my calendar.
Catherine Stine says
Best of luck with the house selling and moving your mom. My brother and I went through all of that, and it's a big relief when it's done. My mom is very happy where she is! My small happiness? My older son just bought a puppy and I'm going to meet him today and help name it! What fun! I love to think up names.
C. Lee McKenzie says
That's so sweet. A new puppy and the naming. Enjoy.
Suzanne Furness says
My goodness, what a year you've had so far. Hope things improve soon and sending best wishes to your mother. Take care and catch you soon.
C. Lee McKenzie says
I'm looking forward to a break, but I know I'll be ready to come back when Oct. rolls around.
Tyrean Martinson says
Oh, I'm so sorry that it's been a rough year. I had no idea.
I hope your mom recovers soon and finds some happiness without having to read between commas for it. Plus, I hope that house sells really quickly!!
Praying for you!!!
C. Lee McKenzie says
Hugs to you, Tyrean. I'm hoping it will go the first month.
Bish Denham says
What a bite. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers and that the house sells quickly.
C. Lee McKenzie says
Thanks, BIsh. I'll know soon I hope.
Libby says
Dear, good luck with the house. Sorry you had such a rough time and so sorry to hear about your mother's fractured neck. Hope 2014 is much much better.
C. Lee McKenzie says
Thanks, Libby. I've got champagne chilling for Jan 1!
L. Diane Wolfe says
I bet you are celebrating that renter finally being gone. I hope the rest of your year is less eventful.
C. Lee McKenzie says
Looking forward to some sleep at night. Yes, I am.
Rhonda says
Here's hoping it is the beginning of celebrating. Hope it goes well in Sept.

C. Lee McKenzie says
Thanks, Rhonda. Appreciate the good wishes.
Angela Brown says
Yeah, it has been something of an eventful year for you (read: trying to find a slightly kind way not to sound negative but understand why you would want to wring your hands and slap a random person walking by).
C. Lee McKenzie says
Yep! That happens, too. So I have to work on keeping a positive outlook. You've helped.
Indigo says
Sorry the year has been a major pain. Here's to hoping it goes out with a bang (the good kind mind you). (Hugs)Indigo
C. Lee McKenzie says
Thanks. Appreciate that.
Darby Karchut says
Send prayers your way that things get better this second half, sweetie!
C. Lee McKenzie says
Just get me through 2013, life. That's what I hope for every day. Thanks, Darby.
Alex J. Cavanaugh says
Wow, that took forever for the renter to leave!
Take a break. Glad you're hanging for the IWSG – big announcement next week.
C. Lee McKenzie says
Look forward to that announcement!
