This is going to be a newsy post. There’s so much happening that’s exciting. Did you see this? #IWriteBecause is a Reedsy idea. Authors are invited to submit a 30 second video, telling why they write. Reedsy will donate $10 for each video to the Room to Read Organization. Take a look at what Mark Dawson says about why he writes. There are a lot of other videos posted and they’re fun to watch.
Help Reedsy’s #IWriteBecause to trend today on Twitter. Here are a couple of tweets you can post with a quick copy, past, Tweet.

Quote of the Week:
Shannon Lawrence says
Oh man, you already have tomatoes?! We're nowhere near, but our growing season is short here in the mountains. There's no guarantee we've had our last frost, so they usually recommend we not plant until Mother's Day weekend. We started them inside, though, and transplanted them this week. Our greenhouse should keep them safe if we don't get a major frost. Good luck with those!
Chrys Fey says
I want to grow tomatoes!
Karen Lange says
Always hated the pinching blossoms part too, but Tomato Bob knows his stuff. Thanks for the update. I'm inspired to get my garden in soon. 🙂 Our risk of frost has just passed, so I need to get going. Happy weekend!
Tamara Narayan says
I haven't heard of Reedsy before today either, but now I'm curious. I've also never heard of pinching back flowers on tomato plants. We've given up on the bigger varieties and plant a bunch of cherry tomatoes and lightbulb tomatoes.
Beverly Stowe McClure says
I've never heard of Reedsy, but will check them out. Tomatoes, yummy. The ones my son planted are coming up, but no tomatoes yet.
Chemist Ken says
I hate pinching back flowers too. Always feel like I'm setting the plant back, even though I know it's supposed to be good for it.
Barbara Fisher says
I loved the tomato report. It's always hard to pinch back those blossoms but if Tomato Bob said to do it …
Like Arlee Bird said I write because I blog and because there are so many delightful bloggers who I would not get to ‘talk’ to if I didn’t.
Oh yes and I’ve Tweeted
Arlee Bird says
I write because I blog. If I didn't blog I might actually write something, but then maybe not.

Tomato Bob does indeed have awesome-looking veggies. Every year, my mom grew veggies in a garden at the end of our yard. I never helped. I guess I don't have the gardener gene. Generous about the donations, though surrounded by boxes from 20 years and having not written in 2 weeks, it's hard for me to remember why I (used to) write.
Heather R. Holden says
I noticed the #IWriteBecause hashtag on Twitter today, but hadn't known the origins of it. Very cool!
Also very cool how you're growing your own tomatoes. Best of luck pinching back that cluster of blossoms!
Tyrean Martinson says
I have a hard time pruning tomatoes, too.
Huzzah for Reedsy and IWSG!
Carrie-Anne says
Good luck with your tomatoes! I wish I'd known tomatoes don't usually grow indoors before I'd bought mine last summer, though I was really happy to see four small tomatoes finally grew on my two survivors. One of the few things I remember from my botany class is that the tomato is technically a berry.
Christine Rains says
I've been tweeting today! Yay for Reedsy and the IWSG! My hubby's baby tomato plants got too much sun and withered. We're going to have to go to the farmer's market on Saturday morning and pick up some bigger plants.
Elephant's Child says
A multiple cheer post.
Hooray for Reedsy, the ISWG, writers, and tomatoes.
(I find pinching off the blossoms and the side shoots hard too. But love the tomato smell on my fingers afterwards.)
Spacer Guy says
I guess tomato fights are out of the question!
Shady Del Knight says
Hi, Cheryl Lee!
I noticed that some of those 30 second videos run more than a minute. 🙂 It reminds me of my years as a news producer when I needed to crack the whip to get field reporters to edit their package reports down so that I could fit them into our 30 minute newscast.
I applaud you on your success at growing tomatoes. Just don't let them grow too big. You know what happened in Attack of the Killer Tomatoes. 🙂 One of my favorite summertime treats is a sandwich consisting only of slices of bread and slabs of freshly harvested tomato.
Enjoy the rest of your week, dear friend C-Lee!
Elizabeth Seckman says
Wow, 25% off- that's a great discount. I suppose tomatoes are the same as flowers. I pluck their first blooms to get fuller, less leggy plants.
DEZMOND says
I smell tomato soup
Donna K. Weaver says
Heavens! You better do what Tomato Bob says. 😉
Liz A. says
I've been hearing about Reedsy's push. Worthy cause.
Sarah Foster says
That's cool about the discount. I'll have to check it out sometime. Good luck with the tomatoes!
Pat Hatt says
Great indeed that they are offering iwsg a discount
Natalie Aguirre says
Reedsy sounds great. I'll tweet later. And awesome about your tomatoes. I just got my first vegetables but it might freeze tonight so I have to bring them in at night for a few nights first. Can't wait to get going on it.
J.H. Moncrieff says
Just heard about Reedsy from Write with Fey. Sounds interesting!
Still jealous of your tomatoes.
Susan Gourley/Kelley says
I hope Reedsy is having a big day. People's reasons are interesting.
sage says
Do you put milk in the ground for your tomatoes and use milk and un-sulfured molasses as a spray for insects? My tomatoes are growing tall–they'll probably come into an abundance harvest when I am in Scotland in late June-early July
Bish Denham says
I tweeted about Reedsy and look forward to delving into what they have to offer.
Good tomatoing!
T. Powell Coltrin says
All of this is great news. The video idea is so clever. I don't think I'll plant anything this year (maybe not even flowers. I'm struggling with just keeping the yard mowed. Ugh. Maybe you can send me a tomato or two. hee hee.
H.R. Sinclair, Southpaw says
I love hearing the tomato progress too. If I could grow them I would!
Yvonne Ventresca says
Thanks for the news, and I love hearing about the tomato progress!
Hilary Melton-Butcher says

I shared a tweet. I think Chrys Fey pointed me to Reedsy, but I have yet to get a chance to make a video.
L. Diane Wolfe says
That's really nice of them to offer IWSG members a discount.
