Friday 13!!!! Psssst.
Oh my gawd! Friday the thirteenth came and went and I didn’t even notice. I usually remain quietly at home, (That’s more difficult now that I know home is where most of the accidents happen.) waiting for the toll of midnight that announces the “all clear.”
I’m excessively superstitous about thirteen of anything, but Friday the thirteenth is the worst. So, how come I had a normal, possibly dull, day last Friday ? Hmmm.
BEWARE OF ANYTHING LADDERY |
I even went back to see if I wrote anything that might be bad, terrible, really rotten on that day. I didn’t. Do you suppose my paraskevidekatriaphobia has gone away? And if that’s the case, does it mean I can treat the 13th like any other day? This is a whole new world for me. This inspires me to write poetry. Please don’t sigh like that, okay?
Ode to Friday 13
At last your ghastly power wanes
I’m freed from all those yearly pains.
No longer will I duck and hide
when number 13 doth abide.
No longer will I garlic strew
when doors I open onto you.
No longer will I cringe and cry
when feline black comes at my side.
Those ladders, yes, bring them on
I prepare to scale those all anon.
One reservation still I hold.
Submitting stories I am told,
to agents, editors is too bold.
When 13 is the page and day
my better judgement has the sway.
I’ll wait for 14 to arrive
then query quickly all my five.
Ah, dear Friday please leave me be
I’m writer-weary as you can see.
There. That wasn’t so bad, was it? Please say no or lie.
Old Kitty says
Your poem does so move me
To tears of joy and glee!
May this unpronounceable word
paraskevidekatriaphobia
Begone and forever leave er.. ya!
π
Take care

Margo Berendsen says
The garlic strewn made me smile!! I don't consider myself superstitious at all, but I still wouldn't query on Friday the 13th. Just in case, you know. π
Empty Nest Insider says
I really enjoyed this clever poem! I've been trying to comment here for days, but I haven't been able to get through. I think this is the first poem I've ever read from you, and I hope to see more. Julie
Lisa Gail Green says
Actually I think it was an awesome poem! But don't fear 13! It's a lucky number too. π
C. Lee McKenzie says
You so a paranormal girl. Of course, 13 has to have luck attached.

I didn't realize it was Friday the 13th either, until someone tweeted about it! Glad you made it through free and clear! And that poem rocks! Love it!
Talli Roland says
Love the poem! Looks like you're get another chance to use it this year, too.
C. Lee McKenzie says
I just found that out, Talli. Rats! More angst.
Sharon Creech says
I think there's a story there . . . about fearing something and then facing it w/out knowing it . . . or something like that? (found your blog thru inluvwithwords)
C. Lee McKenzie says
Love having you here!
Cate Masters says
Uh oh, you're in for two more Friday the 13ths this year! Love the poem too.
C. Lee McKenzie says
Two! Drat. I remember one year there were like four. I think that's just too much, don't you?
Cynthia Chapman Willis says
What better way to conquer your superstitions about Friday the 13th than to write a lovely poem? Good job! Maybe the next Friday the 13th won't seem too scary, either? ; )
C. Lee McKenzie says
Let's hope not!
Barbara Fisher March House Books says
Not bad at all – very good in fact!
Nancy Thompson says
That was awesome! I had a great day on the 13th. Received a clear biopsy. Maybe I should have queried too!
Coleen Patrick says
Awesome–I love it!!
Theresa Milstein says
I don't need to lie to say I like it!
I like Friday the 13th. Because I write fantasy, it reminds me of the fun I have in my stories. I'm a huge fan of Halloween too.
Glad you had a safe 13th.
C. Lee McKenzie says
I love Halloween as long as those ghosts and goblin behave or at least don't jump out at me.
Ciara says
I try not to think about. I'm not superstitious, but when I was younger something always happened to me on Friday the 13th. I was in a car accident one year, fell off a fence and knocked the wind out of me one year, had a mean trick played on me in high school one year. It wasn't my favorite day. Now, I ignore it so it can't get me. π
Roland D. Yeomans says
Fantastic ode to Friday the 13th. I had a strange post that day to go with the usual vibes :

Great poem! Friday the 13th snuck up on me this year too! I have a friend who had a black cat born on Friday the 13th and he named the cat Friday. Unfortunately, the cat wasn't lucky. I am quite superstitious too! Glad the 13th was good to you!
