Quote for Monday: “Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.” Oscar Wilde.
Has anyone read Neesha Meminger’s latest book, Jazz in Love? I’m reading it now and loving it. Are you reading something that keeps you turning the pages? Please share. I’m getting a summer list started.
How good is your grammar on Monday? How can you fix these?
1. While waiting at the airport, it began to rain.
2. Although he’d committed illegal crimes, the gang boss was acquitted.
Does anyone have a suggestion for a resource on, How to Write a Short Story? It seems I have to come up something soon and my experience with writing this story form is close to nil.
Hope your Monday was special!

Looks like the grammar has been corrected. Congrats Catherine and Buddy.
I've added more books to my reading list, Darby and Buddy. I love to have recommendations. Thanks.

The problem with grammar goof #2 looks like redundancy: all crimes are illegal.
If anyone is into dog novels with reincarnation themes, two great reads are A DOG'S PURPOSE, by W. Bruce Cameron, and THE ART OF RACING IN THE RAIN, by Garth Stein.
As for short story resources, I can't offer anything comprehensive. But for a fun exercise, try writing one using words of just one syllable.

Oh, I just finished I Am Number Four and was crazy about it. Nope, haven't seen the movie, yet.

Great quote, Lee. The book you're reading looks good. Re your short story question, gosh, I've only written a couple of them — and don't think I've mastered the art yet! The ending is always the hardest part for me … when is the story finished, after all? 🙂

Thanks for all the suggestions and the help. I've put Kingsolver's book on the list, Ashling.
Mel, I read Rosoff's book and loved it too.

Just finished an older novel I picked up at the library–HOW I LIVE NOW by Meg Rosoff. So good. Don't know how I let it slip by.
Ashling says
Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver…poetic prose, inspiration and education all in one…
Catherine Stine says
Love Oscar Wilde!
As for the phrases, I think you're getting at dangling participles. As that first phrase looks now, it actually means that the airport is raining! A better way to put it would be: It began to rain while I was at the airport.

Excellent quote.
You are unique. Just like everyone else. 🙂 I like your quote better…

Great quote.
I just read Wither, by Lauren DeStefano. Really enjoyed it. It comes out March 22, I think.
Also, don't forget Darby's book Griffin Rising. Love it.
Bish Denham says
Oscar Wilde is the best.
