Memorial Day Monday

May 26, 2014 By C. Lee McKenzie 34 Comments

There’s too much happening to post about only one item. So today I’ll post a lot of different ones.

Starting with Cherie Reich’s new book.
Here it is!
“Yssa must either accept her destiny or fight to change Fate.”

To purchase: Amazon | Createspace | Google Play | iTunes | Kobo | Nook | OmniLit |Smashwords | Other Retailers

If you haven’t read the letters authors have written to their younger, less experienced selves, you must. But wait! CARRIE BUTLER and PK HREZO are putting these together into an eBook and you’ll be able to read the collection when that’s available.

1961-2014

On a sadder note, I just found out that one of my favorite blogger/writers has passed away. Cynthia Chapman Willis was a beautiful person who couldn’t win her fight with cancer. We exchanged emails for a while because my niece was going through the same ordeal. I will miss Cynthia’s kindness and her lovely spirit. Her sister created a post on Cynthia’s BLOG. It’s a perfect tribute.

My thoughts on this Memorial Day: “May our words be more beautiful than the silence they fill.”

I’m flying a flag for you, Dad.

    Hi, Lee,

How sad… Such a young and vibrant woman to die of such a dreaded disease. My heart goes out to her family at this time…

    So sorry to hear this.

But Congrats to Cherie. Wishing her all the best!

So sad Cynthia's life was cut short, Lee. I hope your niece is doing well now.

That's going to be such a cool eBook when it's finished! Such a good idea to write a letter to ourself as a young writer. I wonder how many would actually listen to their own advice?

I'm sorry to hear about Cynthia. I love your words and silence statement. I didn't get out to a cemetery this Memorial day like I usually do, and I've been missing it . . . there is something about standing outside on a spring day with flags all around and putting flowers on graves. It helps us remember those who have sacrificed their lives for ours in war, and it helps us remember all those who have passed.

    Hi Lee,

Congrats to Cherie and thank you for noting her. A letter from my younger self would probably be much wiser than my older self.

I'm very sad to read about Cynthia. I shall check out her sister's tribute.

Memorial Day and beyond. My respect for all those who served and never returned. My respect for those who came back with the hell that is war impacting their physical and mental health. That homeless person we pass by on the street could well be a Veteran.

    In peace and hope,

    Gary

So sorry to hear that about Cynthia. I didn't have the privilege of knowing her, but she sounds like she was a wonderful person. Too many people are taken too soon by the disease.

Oops – I mean Cynthia. Must have been a Freudian slip. My mother died of lung cancer, and her name was Christine.
