Last week Southpaw posted a very informative piece about what you should have on your website and how it should be organized if you want people to follow and interact with you.
It reminded me that I should neaten things up a bit on this blog. It also reminded me that I’d posted about my concern that The Write Game lacked a certain. . .je ne sais quoi. . .panache?
“Insecure Much?”
“Oh, no. Only since I started writing.”
It turns out that I’d put that post up in 2008, and I’ve been thrashing about insecurely since then. After reading Southpaw’s post I decided it was time to do something, so I cleaned and reorganized a bit. Did you notice?
Here’s that original post of mine.
My Glob
WeWrite4U_Lit has a logo. Thanks to Yvonne Ventresca. Please join and support Literacy this month. All it takes is Tweeting and ReTweeting.
Here’s The Way to Say, “I’m In.” |
My quote for the day: “There is no such thing as perfect security, only varying levels of insecurity.”
Hilary Melton-Butcher says
Hi Lee – yes Holly's post certainly registered with me .. and I've just messed something up with mine – so need to really redo it .. and set it out clearly …
The WeWrite4U Lit .. looks to be a good logo .. cheers Hilary
Patricia Lynne says
I try to keep things tidy on my blog, but it also can drive me nuts when others people's blogs are messy. I'm gong to blame hubby on this given he's techie and has taught me a few things. =D
J.L. Campbell says
It's good to support something and literacy is a wonderful way to start. Is it that something will be done on a particular day. I was over at Tyrean and read about the tweets and such.
Gina Stoneheart says
I've only been blogging for a little over a year now but I've been published and giving author visits for almost two. I never had a desire to blog until my mom fell deathly ill. That was the trigger which lead me to find myself as an adult author who desperately needed to start blogging.
I'm thinking about changing the look of my blog, especially now since I will be hosting blog tours and what not. As the years go by, we evolve as writers and as a result, our blogs do too. I still go back to my first post and can't believe how far I've come today.
You have definitely lit the fire under my butt to really think about the next chapter of my blog, C. Lee!
Yvonne Ventresca says
Glad the logo worked out! Happy to help.
You remind me that I should probably clean up my blog, too.
Yvonne
Fundy Blue says
My first blog looks really pitiful next to yours! LOL I'll have to check out that link you posted ~ I can always use some tips about improving my blog. I really enjoyed this post!
Birgit says
Love the glob:) I love what you wrote-funny and true and now i am thinking about my blog…
P V Ariel says
Cleemckenzie,
Good to be here again after a bit gap.
Lot of activities are going on here.
Good to see the lovely look of your page!
this post is really a wonderful one: Today
i learned few new words to keep and remember!
Thanks a lot for sharing these wonderful words:
blogspiration, blogattitude, blogadjustment, unglobbed, and blogginess. very interesting ones! 🙂
~Best Regards
Phil

I always like what you post. But I think we all get tired of what we're blogging aout some of the time.
Your blog changes are great.
Julie Musil says
The glob! That's funny. Your stuff always looks amazing. And you know why we come back? Not because of anything fancy, but because of YOU!
Lynda R Young says
The Write Game does sparkle with true blogginess!!
Susan Gourley/Kelley says
I'm always impressed with your blog. On the other hand, I always think I'm slacking on updating mine. Guess we're sharing that insecurity.
Julie Flanders says
I need to read Southpaw's post, I missed that earlier. Love your first post!
And the logo is excellent, kudos to Yvonne.
Editors At Work says
Yay! for three years! I love reading the IWSG posts all the time!
Angela Brown says
Hey, there 🙂 Your blog has always been well organized to me. But I can't be the best judge. I had to have someone do some organizing at mines as well lol!!
And it's a trip to realize IWSG has ben around for 3 years. How helpful it has been!
Karen Lange says
Hooray for 3 years! ISWG is a wonderful support and resource for writers. 🙂
Jemi Fraser says
Blogattitude – love it! 🙂
Loni Townsend says
I read that same post by SouthPaw. Wound up updating my WIP word counters. I find myself ignoring side bars if there's too much stuff. Sensory overload, kind of. Your glob a wonderful.
Suzanne Furness says
I like to tidy up the side bar from time to time and maybe move things around. I am a bit nervous about going too far and messing things up!
Your blog looks clean and fresh to me.
Michelle Wallace says
Here's my two cents…
Over the last week or so, I've been 'cleaning up' my social networking sites. In the process, I messed up my Facebook.
During the entire hullabaloo, I discovered that I could still access my FB on the i-Pad, but not on the PC. Don't ask me to explain. I'm clueless… and confused.
As a result, I've now started a brand new FB, from scratch. Once it's up and running properly, then I'll delete the old FB.
Btw, your blog always looks structured and orderly.
Happy IWSG Day, Lee!
Crystal Collier says
My blog has been through 3 major revamps. I'm terrified to touch it again–where I've got so much functionality built into where I want it…still, something whispers change is inevitable. I'm sure I need to cull back some of the busy-ness, but I DON'T WANT TO. 😉
M Pax says
I rethink my blog at least 2x a year. You know I just redesigned…
I'll be happy to Tweet, RT. I love my twitter…
C. Lee McKenzie says
I love your futuristic site, Mary. It's always like taking a short trip into space.
Chrys Fey says
You've come a long way with your blog. That's something to be proud of. 🙂
C. Lee McKenzie says
Thanks, Chrys. I liked going back to see what I'd posted several years ago. I think I'll do a retro tribute one of these days.
Cherie Reich says
I find it's a good idea to clean up and rethink our blogs every so often. It makes things feel new and exciting. 🙂
C. Lee McKenzie says
I like that idea, too. I just get lazy.
writerlysam.com says
Oh, yes, I've been through the blog re-vamp just recently. Now, I'm thrilled with the new look…if only I could convince Henry Cavill to stop by for drinks:)
A Movement of Hope
C. Lee McKenzie says
I'm shocked he hasn't been there yet! Such an inviting place to sip Pinot.
Tyrean Martinson says
I feel like I thrash about all the time on my blog. Your blog is beautiful and organized!
And I love the pic!
C. Lee McKenzie says
Thanks, Tyrean. I still have some sweeping to do here.
Stephen Tremp says
Security is overrated anyway. We become complacent, then end up in a worse place than if we were on our guard striving to be better because we realize we are insecure and need to adapt and take measures to overcome.
C. Lee McKenzie says
I agree. Push those envelopes and live a bit on the wild side of angst.
Cathrina Constantine says
Funny you should mention this. I've been thinking my blog needed an overhaul!!
C. Lee McKenzie says
Me too. At least Southpaw got me started.
L. Diane Wolfe says
Some days I still feel like that glob.
C. Lee McKenzie says
Globbiness is a real part of my life.
Southpaw HR Sinclair says
Very nice and thanks for the mention. I was distracted by the shiny things today – the spinning globe.
Time has been moving quickly – the IWSG is 3 YEARS old!
C. Lee McKenzie says
I thought your post was great and, for me, timely.
Dianne K. Salerni says
Thanks for reminding me about Southpaw's post. I was on vacation last week and not in a frame of mind to make changes to my website. I need to take another look at her post and make the attempt to add the feed she recommended — (or put it on the list of things I want to pay my website designers to do.)
C. Lee McKenzie says
Tidying up is important.
Melissa says
Love that first post. LOL
IWSG #179 until Alex culls the list again.
C. Lee McKenzie says
We have to start somewhere, right?
Catherine Stine says
I wish I could do the Write 4 You thing, but I have a scary lot of things to do this fall, and I need to pull back a little, at least for now. Your blog does look freshened up but I don't know why exactly.
C. Lee McKenzie says
Next year, Catherine. I'm hoping to do this annually.
Alex J. Cavanaugh says
That was your first post? It was much better than mine.
You've cleaned up your blog nice. I should probably do the same to mine. My sidebar is a little full…
C. Lee McKenzie says
Not my first, but close.
