I took April off from a lot of my usual activities to let my wretched hand/shoulder heal. It’s now much better, and I’m back to typing with all of my fingers! One day I’ll have a Story To Tell about this.
But today I’m featuring another author. Here’s Cathrina Constantine
Some Stellar Reviews.
“The gritty realism of the many struggles she deals with makes this book so compelling. Plus, just when you think you might be reading a romance, the author takes a completely surprising turn. This book is more of a coming-of-age story that keeps you guessing until the end!” ~ Stephanie Faris, Best Selling Author.
“From its psychedelic beginning to its sweet, poignant ending I loved this story.” ~ Nana Prah, Best Selling Author.
- Song ~ Just about every song gets my heart pumping and my feet tapping, it’s almost impossible to pick just one. For this moment in time, I’ll say, Rolling in the Deep by Adele.
- Movie ~ Soooo many, so many. I’m a movie fanatic. I think I’ve watched Harry Potter a zillion times.
- Author ~ I have an ardent desire for dozens of authors. They all helped to light the flame of my imagination and my writing. I’m sorry, I can’t pick just one…
- Time of Day ~ That’s an easy one, the early morning when the birds are just starting to sing.
- Book ~ The Bible.
- Place to think~ Taking a walk in the woods behind my house.
Thanks Alex |
It’s just about time for another #IWSG Wednesday. Are you ready? Clock’s ticking and the first Wednesday of May almost upon us. Here’s your optional question: What is the weirdest/coolest thing you’ve ever had to research for a story? Or you can just go ON and ON about your current insecurity. 🙂
A lot of you have heard that Joylene Butler has a new book out, but that just before launch day she took a tumble and broke some bones. Surgery during a book launch? I don’t think so. Here’s her book. It looks like a super read.

Congratulations, Cathrina.
Glad you're better, C Lee.
J.H. Moncrieff says
It is a great cover. The title isn't that legible–I had to look closely to read it, but it's a striking image. Hope it does well.
I may be weird for feeling this way, but I prefer to read about everyone's insecurities. It's more personal and customized than people answering the same question.
Mason Canyon says
Congrats to Catherina. C. Lee, hope you and Joylene both continue to heal.
Nana Prah says
I hopped onto your blog on the perfect day. I love Cathy's work and this book was spectacular.
Tamara Narayan says
Catherina's book is already on my Kindle. Those are different quotes about Spring alright. Sometimes it is a mess with all the rain.

Looking at the cover of Cathrina's book, with the girl with mirrored sunglasses and I thought it would be really neat if those glasses could really be mirrored so you saw yourself… I image the production cost would be high, but it would be a neat cover, seeing yourself in the eyes of the character!
Sharon M Himsl says
Hi, thanks for this, Lee. Enjoyed reading everyone's comments and wanted to add my congratulations to Jolene and Cathrina as well. Sorry to hear about all the surgeries and the bad fall. It's May now so maybe you can all breathe a sigh. Not a bad month for me. Finished a-z and received offer to publish my first novel. I'll be thinking about iswsg and the question for Wednedsay.
Hilary Melton-Butcher says
Hi Lee – yes your question I hope will give us some stimulating answers … Cathrina's book will definitely appeal with its stunning cover; while Joylene's book I'm sure will give us an excellent story -love her cover too … her knowledge comes through.
I hope she heals and takes her time … not an easy break, while I'm glad you've recovered your dexterity – just in time for the garden! Cheers Hilary
Liz A. says
Love how the quotes contradict each other. Sounds like an interesting book.
Jacqui Murray says
I'm not really ready, but the question was so good, the article almost wrote itself. I'll come check on you Wednesday.
C. Lee McKenzie says
The question should make for an interesting Wednesday.
Jemi Fraser says
LOL to the Parker quote! 🙂
the books sound great! best of luck to Joylene and Catherina!
C. Lee McKenzie says
She was kind of snarky, wasn't she?
Nick Wilford says
Nice to see Cathrina here! I'll have to have a think about the IWSG question – I'm sure I've researched a few weird things.
C. Lee McKenzie says
You wouldn't be a writer if you hadn't. Will look forward to seeing what you cop to!
Lexa Cain says
Huge congrats to both Cathrina and Joylene on their new releases, and I hope Joylene gets well soon! 🙂
C. Lee McKenzie says
I hate being injured or sick, but either while launching a book is truly hard to even consider.
Lauren says
I love the cover for Incense and Peppermint – and yay for a fun, quick interview. I really like the HP films too.

C. Lee McKenzie says
Hi Lauren. Thanks for stopping by! You and CC have similar tastes.
Elephant's Child says
April does indeed seem to have been hard on my favourite people – writers. The shame of it. I will speak roughly to her – and am glad you are healing.
Cathrina's book sounds intriguing and right up my very wide bookie alley.
C. Lee McKenzie says
Is my alley as wide as your alley? We must compare. 🙂 Thanks Sue!
Karen Lange says
So glad you're feeling better! Fun interview with Cathrina! 🙂 Hoping Joylene is healing well.
C. Lee McKenzie says
There couldn't be a worse time for an accident. I mean a few days before you launch a book? Shudder.
Cathrina Constantine says
Lee, thank you very much for hosting me today and for having me on your newsletter! I'm very grateful.
C. Lee McKenzie says
Glad you could put in an appearance. And thanks for being such a great guest. I love that you've responded to the comments.
Annalisa Crawford says
I identify with Cathrina not being able to answer those interview questions – there's so much choice!
C. Lee McKenzie says
I'm with her, too. But I'm not good at long interviews anymore. I like those insightful snippets about a person. 🙂
Cathrina Constantine says
I also like quick little tidbits for a review. As we all know, blogging and social media take up a good portion of our time. And leaves little time for writing…
L. Diane Wolfe says
Thanks for mentioning Joylene's book. I'll give everyone an update on her this week.
C. Lee McKenzie says
I'm sure the report will be good.
Shady Del Knight says
Hi, Cheryl!
Thanks for introducing Cathrina and her book. After reading the synopsis on Amazon, I concluded that Incense and Peppermints will resonate with boomers like me who were there and did that. I like the fact that what at first seems to be a romance story takes a dark and mysterious turn and keeps the reader guessing.
Given the title of her new book, I'm a bit surprised that Cathrina didn't name that big hit by Strawberry Alarm Clock as her favorite song. 🙂
I enjoyed the quotes of the week giving sharply contrasting impressions of spring. 🙂
Have a great week, dear friend C-Lee!
Shady Del Knight says
(I am also very happy to know that your injuries have finally healed!)
C. Lee McKenzie says
I'm surprised Cathrina didn't call you and ask for some details about those wild and "hairy" days. 🙂 I love first hand resources.
Cathrina Constantine says
Shady, it sounds like we might have known each other…during those wild and crazy days…
Shady Del Knight says
Hi, Cathrina!
I am pleased to meet you! I see that you now reside in Western New York. I was raised in Central PA and attended Penn State (and numerous late 60s Animal House-style fraternity toga parties :), and so it is indeed possible that you and I crossed paths at some point. If you never heard of them, you should check out the Rochester-based retro inspired girl group called It's My Party:

Again, it is nice meeting you, Cathrina. Best of luck with your book and all future endeavors!
Patricia Lynne says
Cathrina's book look amazing.
I think I might need a blogging break in May. x_x
Cathrina Constantine says
Thank you Patricia.
Christine Rains says
Yay for Cathrina! Her new book is fantastic. Love those quotes. I do love all the flowers blooming right now. 🙂
C. Lee McKenzie says
Unfortunately, the allergies that come with spring are really getting to everyone around here. So far (I'm rapping my knuckles on my desk) I'm okay.
Cathrina Constantine says
And thank you Christine for the awesome review!!!
Yolanda Renée says
Great quotes! Must be something about book releases that inspire injury. My right wrist is in a brace and I had to go get a tetanus shot today – nasty old paint can!!! 🙂
Take care, everyone!
Catherine, wishing you all the best! Love the cover! And the music – great way to spark memories!
C. Lee McKenzie says
I do think April was hard on writers. Sorry about that wrist, Yolanda. Hope it's better very soon.
Cathrina Constantine says
Take Care Yolanda, and thank you!
DEZMOND says
Spring will be very sad this year, because our blogging friend Melissa Bradley has left us yesterday after a very long battle with cancer 🙁
C. Lee McKenzie says
Sorry. I didn't know. She put up a long, hard fight.
Cathrina Constantine says
The entire blogging community is saddened by her loss… 🙁
Barbara Fisher says
I LOVE Rolling in the Deep by Adele, I also love Harry Potter, and I agree there are just SO many good authors. How could Cathrina possibly pick just one? Actually, I couldn’t argue with any of these answers. Morning is my favourite time of day. I love walking in the woods why wouldn’t you say Bible.
C. Lee McKenzie says
It looks as if you and Cathrina could talk long into the night about many shared interests.
Cathrina Constantine says
Barbara, sounds like we'd be great friends!!!
Sarah Foster says
Glad you are healing and can type with both hands again! I'd hate not being able to do that. I write slow enough as it is.
C. Lee McKenzie says
I'm not a good patient, so glad that's over.
Bish Denham says
Glad you've healed up! I hope Joylene is healing a well. Cathrina's novel in intriguing since I'm of a certain age… I'll have to check it out! See you Wednesday.
C. Lee McKenzie says
But the sixties was good to you, Bish. I've seen those lovely pictures. Great to see you. Hope your break was energizing.
Cathrina Constantine says
Thank you Bish.
Sandra Cox says
Joylene's book sounds very enticing. And Cathrina's cover is one of the best I've seen.
So glad to hear you are healing.
C. Lee McKenzie says
I'm such a cover addict. Love it when they're excellent.
Cathrina Constantine says
Thank you Sandra.
Pat Hatt says
Good you are all healed up and the fingers work once more.
A walk in the woods is a fine way to clear ones head and think. I've watched Harry Potter maybe twice, your zillion has me beat lol
C. Lee McKenzie says
Maybe she only meant a lot of times. Harry would't stand up under such scrutiny. 🙂
Cathrina Constantine says
I exaggerated a bit…hahaaa…
H.R. Sinclair, Southpaw says
Good news about your healing and using both hands to type again. 🙂 It's great you took the time to heal, so often people don't and make it worse.
Dorothy and Audra have quite differing views of spring. LOL
C. Lee McKenzie says
Thanks. I'm delighted to be flexing ten digits again.
Alex J. Cavanaugh says
Glad you are healed! Hopefully Joylene is healing as well.
The Bible – good choice, Cathrina.
C. Lee McKenzie says
April must have been "Be Unkind to Authors Month."
Cathrina Constantine says
Thank you Alex.
