Here’s to a great AtoZ!

This year I traveled to Cuba. You know, it’s that little island that’s spitting distance from Florida and should not be visited without special dispensation. I wanted to see it before MacDonald’s arrived. I’m so glad I did. I learned a lot and I met some wonderful people. It seems they like us. Now there’s a change!
I’ll add a short T/F quiz to each post the same as I did last year about Burma, and I’ll post the answers to the questions the following day.
Answers to your T/F Quiz for B:
Actually, this is kind of a trick question since the word “modern” is a squishy one. But it seems it’s used to separate buildings from the Colonial and Art Deco periods and definitely from the post 1959 one.
Che Overlooking Independence Square |
In Cuba images of Che and other Cuban heroes are just about everywhere. This fifteen-story wire piece of Che stares out over the wide expanse of Independence Square.
Answers tomorrow.
Birgit says
Che is huge everywhere and stand s for so much. I know that Castro doesn't like to have his picture everywhere. I know that Che came from South America.
Juneta Key says
I agree with everyone else both true.
Juneta @ Writer's Gambit
Misha Gericke says
Couldn't do a series on Cuba without Castro and Che.
I think both #1 and #2 are true. (If I remember correctly, Che wasn't from Cuba in any case. Just not dead sure about where he's from.)
Natasha Duncan-Drake says
I always used to wonder who the chap on all the T-shirts and posters was, was ages before I learned anything about Che 🙂

I have 4 Che tshirts – all black. 🙂
My answer is "True" for both questions.
What fun, Lee!
Roland D. Yeomans says
I would love to visit Cuba accompanied by the ghost of Ernest Hemingway … or Woody Allen! 🙂
Patricia Lynne says
I think I need a cloning machine for this month!
It's awesome you got to go to Cuba. I've only visited Canada for foreign counties.
Karen Lange says
Cuba sounds like such an interesting place to visit! Thanks for the info. 🙂
Melissa Sugar says
I'm going with true for the first one ( of course he admires himself so much) and false for the second one. I'm glad to see I guessed your theme reveal. This is my first chance to stop by, I was on spring break with my kids. This is going to be such an interesting topic. I've always wanted to visit Cuba. It's probably, because it's so close and because of the mystery surrounding us being prohibited. My father used to travel to Havana back in the day when people traveled there to gamble and it was quite different. He died in January and that makes me want to see more of the world that he knew.
Cathrina Constantine says
I'll also say true to both…
Yvonne Ventresca says
We all need a cloning machine this month!

So you're a clone? Is that how you manage to accomplish so many things each day?
Interesting post. You're giving us a nice history lesson.
J.H. Moncrieff says
I'm sticking with true. 🙂 Have you seen The Motorcycle Diaries? Wondering what you thought of it if so.
Pat Garcia says
Forgot to mention while going down memory lane that Che is from Argentina.

This brings back memories. I was militant at the university and guess who was one of the people I admired? Che. In many ways that militant streak is still in me.
Thanks for the memories.

both are heroes of the freedom loving world

My that was big, wonderfully interesting to read.
Yvonne.
Chrys Fey says
That's big! I'm going to guess true for both.
Ann Best says
How lovely that you got to visit Cuba. As for Castro … it's a name that has been a part of my life and yet I know so very little. I am always interested in learning more. I suspect #1 is true 🙂
Sherry Ellis says
Cuba would be a fascinating place to visit. I'm happy to hear that the people like us. I'd guess "yes" to both of them.
Michelle Wallace says
That's a huge wire image.
I think both are true.

Susan Gourley/Kelley says
I think both are true today. I hope the common folks in Cuba benefit from the coming changes.
Susan Says
Crystal Collier says
Yeah… Trivia isn't really my thing, but I'm inclined to believe both of those. #2 has me leaning though…

sage says
I am pretty sure the second one is a yes and think the first one is probably a yes. Che was an interesting character and it would be interesting to know what happened between him and Castro
Robin says
The A to Z is once again a bit imposing (and overwhelming). I see that you're talking Cuba. My knowledge is very limited, so I see this as a learning opportunity.
My blog friend Manzi told me via blog comment that Fidel Castro wanted to be a professional baseball player (here in the US) before he did that "other" thing. Her husband owned a baseball team and Fidel tried out (pitcher), but wasn't good enough, and he didn't make the cut. I guess that pissed him off, so he went back to Cuba… and the rest is history.
As for your T/F… I'm going to say True to both.
angelzuz says
I like this, quiz.. smile.
I have a little warm heart for Che. I think , he was handsom . Smile.
I will come back.

I love that wire piece – it's huge and yet doesn't seem all that imposing!
Bish Denham says
Well I got both of yesterday's questions wrong! I'm going to say false to #1 and true for #2. (I'm positive I've got at least ONE right.)
Yolanda Renee says
I'm saying true again.
Love this history lesson, thank you!
Natalie Aguirre says
How awesome you got to visit Cuba. I'd love to go there someday too.
Pat Hatt says
That is rather huge haha say #2 is true.
Sarah Foster says
That wire piece is impressive! I'd guess they're both true.
Christine Rains says
True for both. Wow! So big.
Nicola says
YAY, I know this one: Number 2 is True! Got Saturday's wrong 🙁 Great post, Lee. Thanks for sharing.
Mason Canyon says
I'd think Castro's photo is probably everywhere even though his brother is president now. Not sure about the second.
S.A. Larsenッ says
Interesting post. I've never been to Cuba. I'm glad you discovered they like us. 😉
Alex J. Cavanaugh says
That is big.
I'd guess the first one is true since he does really admire himself.
