Happy Indie Independence Blog Hop! Let the Fireworks begin. |
This has been a fast-paced month. Zip it was the first of June. Zap and June was gone and July arrived. So what happened in June that caused it jet past?
Alligators took up most of my time. I sent the final edits to the publisher and the presses are rolling. Do presses roll any more? I think not. Change and more change. That’s what this publishing business is all about and at a very fast clip.
I organized a Blog Tour for Alligators Overhead with some extra special people that you’ll be seeing here in August. I’ve never organized one of these before, so I appreciated the help from the pros like MPax and LMPreston. Yay for mentors.
I created a somewhat handsome eBook anthology of some of my middle grade short stories. I’m still not 100% happy with the conversion from pdf to mobi, but the stories are readable and the images clear. It’s that darned page break thing that doesn’t always seem to work that bugs me. If anyone has a fix for that, I’d be very grateful. I’ll even send over an alligator or two.
I set up a fb page for my new book, and now I’m wondering if that was worthwhile. I have a hard time figuring out what to post on those darned book pages. If you have some ideas, another alligator for you.
I read Journeys of Wonders and enjoyed the short stories by Ian Kezsbom, Lisa Gail Green and Leslie S. Rose. Give it a read.
So what happened for you in June? Were you busy with writing, reading, promoting, traveling? *Sigh* I need a vacation.
Cecilia M. says
Wow you accomplished ALOT in June! That's really great, clee, congrats. π

Best of luck with your blog tour! I know it will be a huge success! Julie

Now the fun begins. The tour. Looking forward to it.
Thanks for letting me be a part of it.
My June was mostly writing.

Wow, you have been busy. Much luck on your eBook.
Summer is so busy, but I'm still writing.

Thanks for the information… I really love your blog posts… specially those on Helping Organisations
Lexa Cain says
Everything looks great for your launch, Lee. I visited your fb page and it was wonderful — so many awesome pics. I accidentally commented on someone else's comment (fb and I don't get along), but I 'liked' it!
Ian Kezsbom says
Thanks as well for the shout out. We're working on the Journeys of Wonder facebook page…but right now we're just posting our blog posts. As far as formatting ebooks go, we did everything by hand…so I'd be happy to look at your process and see if I can figure out why the page break problem is occurring.
And as for June, I've just been working on Journeys of Wonder Volume 2!
Lisa Gail Green says
Thank you so much for the shoutout!!! So sweet of you. I wish I had a brilliant answer to your questions, but sadly I'm lucky to remember my name these days. I've never been big on FB for promotion, but that's just a personal choice. Yay for alligators!
Carole Anne Carr says
Thanks C.L. if you could tweet my ebook promotion that would be very kind, not to worry if this is impossible. Kind regards, Carole.
Kelly Hashway says
June was not the best month for me. Summer is kicking my butt. Yard issues, migraines, no free time. But, I did get a new puppy, and she's adorable and fun. I'm trying to get back on track in July.
Jemi Fraser says
June was complete crazy chaos for me with the final month of school wrapping up! I also enjoyed the stories in Journey of Wonders – great authors π
C. Lee McKenzie says
Bisi, that's a great idea! I hate maintaining those book pages, but pictures I can do.
Leslie, I hope you and your fellow short story writers have some great sales from your anthology.
Hi Talli. It's as busy in England as here, isn't it?
Thanks for your help, Stephen.
Stephen Tremp says
Good luck with your upcoming Blog Tour and thanks for including me. I', looking forward to the journey!
Talli Roland says
My goodness, you've been busy! June, wow, it has gone by in a blur. I don't even know what I did!
Leslie S. Rose says
I'm so excited for Alligators Overhead – can't wait to read it and be part of the celebration. Thank you so much for the shout out for Journeys of Wonder. June did zip by. Graduation fever made it fly for us – yes another English major, my daughter, is unleashed on the world.
Bisi Leyton says
Hey, have a wonderful 4th of July.
As for my FB page, I cheat and post interesting pictures that are some how linked to zombies or boys with green eyes.
I've started a set of pictures called Before and Afters and post three a week and people seem to like those and it saves me thinking of random comments.
I've checked out your FB, it's nice (could do with more alligators)
LynNerdKelley says
Wow, how exciting, Lee! Can't wait to read your new book.
My first attempt at an eBook (3 short stories for kids on Kindle) was awful. Kept going back to my Word doc and correcting the problems, then it would do it again, so I finally left it where it indents in a couple spots where it shouldn't. Then I found a very reasonably priced formatter. She formatted my other manuscripts for Kindle and Smashwords, alike, and formatted the covers for free. Saves me so much aggravation! Email me if you want her info.
Hope you have a wonderful 4th!
Adrienne says
Sounds like you had a busy and productive June! I think mine was more busy than productive π
Theresa Milstein says
Wow, it sounds like you've been busy! Glad you've gotten some help. I notice formatting issues when I set up posts with photos sometimes. Hope someone helps you.
C. Lee McKenzie says
LOL, Ruth. I have a feeling it's never easy, but thanks for the vote of confidence. Good luck on those books.
Ruth Schiffmann says
I agree, June just whizzed by! I've been making progress with my YA contemporary WIP. Shifting gears this week for some PB revisions, and after that revising my YA novel in verse. It's good to be busy, though, right?!
Sounds like you're learning a lot through this whole indie publishing process. Just think how easy it will be next time π
C. Lee McKenzie says
I need a fb coach!
Susan Oloier says
I'm like you with the whole FB page. I never know what is post-worthy.
BTW…August 30th works for me. I'll email you about details.

I was busy writing last month.
That is interesting about presses rolling. I'm so familiar with that term from childhood. Things have changed.
I hope you get some rest this 4th. Have a great holiday week.

Let's see June… June… I can't remember. Oh… I sent off a couple of novels to beta's to read and am waiting for their comments and I had a birthday. Now here it is July and I'm wondering where the year has gone!
