Mystery Blogger J’s 2013 theme: “British Cooking Lore”
J is for Junkets.
I didn’t have a clue what Junkets were, but here’s what this blogger told us.
“Junkets, curds and whey, or creams … the names have become ‘muddled’ over time … sometimes curds are listed as creams … while curds and whey were sometimes listed as junkets in the old cookery books.
Who was it? HINT: This blogger is a traveler and prolific blogger.

Hilary Melton-Butcher says
How interesting .. I thought I'd come up under P!! And most except the well guessed few – though Jo .. really fascinating ..
Also I'd have thought the theme was obvious .. but Jo – was knocking on the door in everyone's minds – and that put other commenters off the scent!
Thanks Lee .. fun to read .. cheers Hilary
VikLit says
How nice to be asked to do another writing talk!
debi o'neille says

I't always good to eliminate yourself first and go from there! 🙂
Suzanne Furness says
Well I'm sure Hilary has talked of junkets in the past so I think it was her. She travels and writes fascinating posts too.
Congrats on the rave review and glad you are enjoying your yummy produce.
C. Lee McKenzie says
Hilary's posts are always a learning experience.
Empty Nest Insider says
It's hard to decide between Hilary and Jo, as they're both prolific writers who travel, and often write about food. Jo actually writes recipes while Hilary takes us along on her epicurean adventures. I'll go with Hilary for the win! Congrats on your rave reviews, speaking engagements, and adding another bookstore to your list, Lee!

I Googled and Hilary came up.
I'd like to try these foods.
C. Lee McKenzie says
Googling always works.
Michael Di Gesu says
I LOVE Hilary's posts. They are so interesting. I feel as though I'm traveling in her pocket, smelling, tasting, and viewing all she is experiencing.
As for Junkets… I've only heard them used as a form of cheap travel by plane. Like Junkets to Vegas… you know those three night, four day deals…
CONGRATS Lee on your review and new presentation!
C. Lee McKenzie says
You're so right. Junkets has a few meanings.
Leslie S. Rose says
I love cheese curds. Do they qualify? I like the way they squeak when you bite them. Hooray for your peaches. My mouth watered just reading about them. Double hooray for the good review.
C. Lee McKenzie says
Squeaky food is the best!
Yvonne Ventresca says
I'm so happy for your good news! That's wonderful!

Thanks, YV!
Lynda Dietz says
Well, I might have guessed Jo because hers is the only food blog I'm currently following. And then with the word "junkets" I was immediately distracted with visions of Chinese boats, and I lost track of what I was trying to guess.
In any case, I'm a little jealous that you have fruits and veggies right now. We've finally started to hit temps above the mid-40s and I've already ditched my heavy coat.
Congratulations on your book success and your new speaking gig!
C. Lee McKenzie says
Jo sounds like she has an interesting food blog. Will definitely check her out.
Patricia Lynne says
I've never heard of junkets before.

Wait a sec! I thought you had finished the A to Z in your last post. Yikes and never mind. Sunday will soon be here and the other Lee, yes the Lee who evidently is the brainchild of this alphabet garbage allows you Sunday off for good behaviour (behavior). Yippee!!!
Okay, it be Jo, you know.
Actually, a Junket is the plural of a Chinese boat you can see in Hong Kong harbour (harbor) Sheesh!
Awesome news about your Fava beans! Anything else? Oh yes, hearty congrats on your rave reviews. Anything else? Oh yes, happy presentations! Anything else? Oh yes, arise prince Glib.
Zoe Byrd says
congratulations on the successful review! How cool is that!? You have a peach tree??? sooooo jealous! I am embarassed to say or ask …. THAT"S a junkett? I was way off!
C. Lee McKenzie says
All shall be revealed on Monday. And yes, I do have one of those. It came from some discarded seed and has given us four years of beautiful fresh peaches.
LynNerdKelley says
Woot! Woot! Woot! for another bookstore carrying Princess of Las Pulgas (love that book) and for another writing presentation lined up! I hope the momentum of good things happening in your life keeps going and doesn't stop!
C. Lee McKenzie says
That's very kind of you, Lynn! I love momentum. It's so much better than the doldrums. 🙂
Lexa Cain says
I don't know who the blogger is – but CONGRATS on the great review, your book being in another bookstore, and that you now have fans wanting to hire you to speak publicly! Wow! (You're not supposed to talk about Fava Beans though….you know why. *stern look and wriggly eyebrows*)
C. Lee McKenzie says
Guessing it has to do what young kids get such a kick out of! Naughty girl.
SA Larsenッ says
Zero clue, but junkets??? I've never heard of that. Yes, I live a sheltered life.
C. Lee McKenzie says
Naw! It's just one of those obscure food items.
Tyrean Martinson says
The first thought that crossed my mind as I ended this post – can I come hang out in your garden? 🙂
Congratulations on your good review! – You deserve more of them!
And way to go on the presentations!
April is awesome.
And I have no guesses today . . .
C. Lee McKenzie says
Yes you can hang out, but hanging out is defined as weed, hoe, rake before any nibbling. 🙂
Mere Joyce says
Fantastic about the good review, and that's great about the presentations, I think that must be so much fun!
C. Lee McKenzie says
It involves some work, but there are usually many rewards for doing these. Love meeting readers and writers.

I've googled Junkets, curds and whey and I like what I saw 🙂
C. Lee McKenzie says

I'm going to say Hilary Melton-Butcher because she has such interesting posts about history and last year she did her challenge on cookery.
Congratulations on The Princess finding her way on to new shelves!
C. Lee McKenzie says
Hilary's information is always amazing. Tired word, but her blog is anything but tired.
Southpaw says
Oh it's our Hilary all right! I think this is the first post where there has been a 50/50 split among the guesses. Though mine is not a guess. 😉
C. Lee McKenzie says
Southpaws are so good at this kind of game!
Julie Flanders says
I think that's Hilary – she has such a style to her writing.
Congrats on another bookstore picking you up and for the great review – yay!
