I can’t think of the letter P without thinking about POPPIES. A California native flower and it’s state flower as well. Here’s what California used to look like before shopping malls.
Anyone from a state with a state flower that starts with P? Better yet, what is your state flower? Is it still treasured? Beautiful?

Black Eyed Susan is Maryland's State flower.
I'm a nature person so , I always take time to stop and smell the flowers. I like them to know that I appreciate them and that they add to my life!

Hi Lee .. well you sent me off to find out our County flower here – I had no idea .. it's the Round Headed Rampion .. apparently with a connection to the fairy tale Rapunzel, as set out by the Brothers Grimm … I should probably tell Teresa of Journaling Woman this .. as she's writing Grim Tales based on the Brothers Grimm ..
So you see you sent me off in all directions and now I know what our County flower is .. and it's rather pretty and blue ..
Cheers Hilary

That is a pretty picture of those Poppies. No, however, I don't know what my state flower is but I'll look it up…because you asked and it's early and sunny outside I'm not in a funky mood yet, lol.
Ok, so, it looks like the Pennsylvania state flower is the Mountain Laurel. I'm not too familiar with it but it's a pink and white flower that blooms in late May through June and was enacted by the General Assembly on May 5, 1933.
Boy that didn't take long at all. Cheers!

Lovely picture. I was born in California and remember well the surprise of poppies growing wild by the side of the road. Now I live in Washington. Our state flower? Fabulous Rhododendrons!

Does a Provincial flower count (I'm in Canada)?
I was about to say ours in BC is the Dogwood, then I double-checked and was delighted to see it is actually the Pacific Dogwood. Happy coincidence!

Poppies are so pretty! I always think of the Wizard of Oz when I think of them 🙂 And my mom's garden!

I adore the CA. poppies. I've been to the annual Poppy Festival in the Antelope Valley, and every year in May my family makes the trek to go visit the poppy fields. Breathtaking.

I do like poppies, too–they're such sunny flowers!

You can still find areas like that in CA! Few & far between, but they can be found!
Beverly Stowe McClure says
The Bluebonnet is Texas' state flower and they've been so pretty this spring. They're planted along the highways and brighten up the scenery. They're beginning to fade now. Wish they lasted longer.

I grew up in New Mexico – state flower is the yucca. I now live in Colorado – state flower is the columbine.
New Mexico not only has the usual state flower, animal, bird, etc, it also has an official state question: "Red or green?"
I am so geeking out right now!

What a beautiful picture. I'd love to see a huge field of poppies such as that one.
The New Jersey state flower is the violet, yet I can't recall when I've seen a violet growing wild around here. And I live in a rural part of the state.
Jennifer R. Hubbard says
Ironically, you're just as likely to see violets in lawns and on roadsides. We have a ton of 'em here just over the border in Pennsylvania!
Fairday Morrow says
Poppies are so pretty! Love the picture you included. I live in CT and the state flower is the mountain laurel. I am not sure if I have ever seen one here- which seems odd!

Poppies are gorgeous. Sadly I'm not 100% sure what Michigan's state flower is, I want to guess Apple Blossom and Google's 'best guess' confirms that…but it doesn't sound all that definite. xD
