baal_zak Dr. Occult |
Mystery Blogger D’s 2013 theme: “Super heroes!”
D is for Doctor Occult.
Richard Occult (aka The Ghost Detective) was a supernatural detective created by the same team who created Superman….Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. He debuted in New Fun Comics #6, back in 1935 under the name Dr. Mystic where he travels to a mystic realm, flies, and wears a cape….thus becoming the very first caped hero in comics (Superman didn’t appear until 1938).
I’d never heard of Dr. Occult before the A to Z 2013!
Who is it? Hint: This blogger says, “I’m a late bloomer.”

Mark Means, but now I see Alex already got it, as usual. Still fun 🙂

Greetings human, Lee,
Please note that I backtracked to this pawsting. High paws to this wonderful DAWG.
""I'm a late bloomer." Obviously a plant that blogs about blooming at a later time in the year. This was easy. A ghost detective? I could see right through that one…

I'm running late…
My brain is blank…
I have no idea…
Julie Jordan Scott says
I am hovering on the edge of sleep over here… but then I thought "Maybe the labels give a clue!" I am curious about Dr. Occult just because it combines several different funny bone tickles in me. (Did I mention sleepy and giggly sometimes show up a the same time?")
Here is my attempt at a fact that I am completely making up and who knows if it is remotely true: Women are actually more attracted to superheroes and villains who are smart and strategic than all muscle bound and buff. (or maybe it would be more accurate to say THIS woman.) Anyway – Happy D and on to E!

Hello, Dr. Occult. New to me. I'm intrigued. I'm off to stalk Mark Means.
Medeia Sharif says
I'm drawing a blank here. Maybe it's too late in the night for me to guess things.
Manzanita says
uumm I read most of Mark's last year but I must have missed Dr. Occult. I like the idea, though.
J.L. Campbell says
For sure, I don't know who it is. I'd go with Stephen's response. The late-bloomer tag made me think of her, but then I don't know if she did the challenge in 2013.
Susan Gourley/Kelley says
I think it is Mark Means. I read all his posts last year. He has a fun theme this year too.
Stephen Tremp says
Is the mystery blogger Old Kitty?
Elizabeth Seckman says
Mark Means!
River Fairchild says
Classic! Unless catnip is involved. Well, duh…I'd go with the supplier too. 😉

Interesting story. I never heard of the good Dr. Looking forward to the answer.
Lexa Cain says
I seem to recall superhero posts on Michael Offut's blog (or is it Stephen Offut? The one who writes SF.) I have the worst memory, but when I DO remember things, I can be counted on to remember the most eclectic (read: useless) information. 😉
C. Lee McKenzie says
Hang in there, Lexa. You're close.
Mark Means says
Heh, I guess it's unfair for me to guess, but there's always tomorrow 🙂
Thanks a bunch, Lee, I appreciate the shoutout and glad you enjoyed my theme from last year.
Thanks to the rest of you for all your kind words, as well 🙂
(oh and, yes, I was a late bloomer!)
C. Lee McKenzie says
Seems like blooming came when it was necessary!
Lynda Dietz says
I had no clue, but looking at the probably correct answers above, I happily admit to "discovering" him the other day and following him immediately.
C. Lee McKenzie says
That counts. And you'll enjoy Mark's site.
Crystal Collier says
I'm completely clueless. Have I mentioned how awful I am with names? For whatever reason, they just don't stick in my brain. Faces, facts, interactions, memories, yes. Names? *sigh*
C. Lee McKenzie says
Too much cheese!
Caryn says
Here for the A to Z Challenge. Hope you're enjoying it as much as we are! Good luck on your new book!

Oh, I enjoyed Mark's super hero series last year. It was so much fun, and I'm really glad he's joined us again this year too.

Michael Di Gesu says
Hi, Lee…
Ooo… grim and surly looking… Almost a bit to cranky looking to be a super hero… lol.
Yes, it has to be Mark Means…I remember his A-Z from last year!
C. Lee McKenzie says
He does look fearsome, but I guess he did good stuff.
Sherry Ellis says
Yep. Mark Means.
C. Lee McKenzie says
1 Point! Got catnip?
Hilary Melton-Butcher says
Hi Lee – well I'm glad others are much more aware than I am – I know Mark really quite well .. but not enough obviously to recognise him .. I guess I should have put Comics and Mark together ..
I will definitely enjoy coming back to take these in .. and then refer to the blogger too .. cheers Hilary
C. Lee McKenzie says
It's hard to remember from a year ago. I have trouble with recalling what I did an hour before.
Julie Flanders says
I think this one is Mark from Left and Write? Loved his theme last year.
C. Lee McKenzie says
1 Point!
Southpaw says
I didn't know the blogger, but the info was cool.
